Lady Tams cop UAAP football title over UP

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University used its superiority to turn back University of the Philippines, 2-1, and cop its third straight women’s crown yesterday in the UAAP Season 77 football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. ?     

Season MVP Alesa Dolino and Ina Araneta delivered the goals for FEU, the last in the 67th minute. ? 

UP averted a shutout after Marie Navea Huff converted the spot kick in stoppage time. ?      

“It’s the first time that we had a three-peat. I’ve never won three straight titles during my time,” said Lady Tamaraws coach Let Dimzon.?       

Dolino also bagged the Best Defender award and shared the Best Goalscorer award with UP’s Cristina delos Reyes, Mary Rose Obra and Ateneo’s Camille Rodriguez.?       

La Salle got a share of awards with Ina Palacios as Best Goalkeeper and Chelo Marie Hodges as Rookie of the Year aside from bagging the Fair Play award.?        

In the juniors Finals Saturday, Mark Joseph Arranguez scored the go-ahead goal midway in the second half to give FEU-Diliman a 2-1 win over Ateneo for its fifth consecutive crown. Baby Tamaraw Nikki Canonigo was named  MVP.
