Diones cops fourth gold as JRU nails 5th crown
MANILA, Philippines - Mark Harry Diones won his fourth gold medal in the 4x400-meter relay team as Jose Rizal University took its fifth straight championship in the 90th NCAA track and field competitions at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City over the weekend.
Diones led his team of Aldrin Rey, Ramil Toledo and Paernel Lobos to victory to cap another dominant performance after topping the long jump, 400 meters and triple jump in the first two days of the three-day meet.
The 22-year-old Diones thanked his parents, Maximo, Sr. and Luzviminda, Jose Rizal athletic director and NCAA Management Committee chair Paul Supan and coaches, Jojo and Elma Muros-Posadas for his feats.
“Without them, I wouldn’t be able to achieve this,” said Diones, a graduating criminology student.
Jose Rizal amassed 892.50 points to run away with the overall crown with Perpetual Altas a far second with 482.85 points and Arellano University finishing with 401.33 points for third.
“This is the product of the team’s hard work as well as the school’s full support to the program,” said Posadas.
“Mission accomplished,” said Supan.
In the juniors’ division, Emilio Aguinaldo College claimed its third straight championship after garnering a league best 1,020.25 points.
