La Salle XI grabs lead
MANILA, Philippines - Alfredo Bustamante scored the marginal goal as La Salle edged National U, 1-0, to seize the No. 1 seeding in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 77 men’s football tourney yesterday at Moro Lorenzo Field in Ateneo.
Bustamante tapped it in after the Bulldogs’ mishandled Nate Alquiros’ free kick in the sixth minute for the cushion that was enough to give the unbeaten Green Archers the victory and league-leading 32 points after the elims.
The Archers set up a knock-out Last-4 showdown with fourth-ranked rival Ateneo on Sunday at Rizal Memorial Stadium. The Blue Eagles caught the last bus to the semis with a 2-1 victory over University of Santo Tomas for 25 points.
The other F4 pairing will showcase No. 2 Far Eastern, the defending champion, and No. 3 University of the Philippines.
