The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - University of the East and Adamson repulsed their respective fancied rivals to mar the third playdate of the Smart-PCABL fourth Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City last weekend.

The Lady Warriors, preparing for the coming UAAP season, stunned the defending champions Centro Escolar University-CafeFrance Lady Scorpions, 67-64, to snap a two-game losing run in the tournament presented by Dickies.

Held to just six points in the first three quarters, Cherry Ano-os exploded for 12 points in the payoff period as UE snapped CEU’s two-game win run in the tournament sponsored CW Home Depot, Powerhouse, K-Tech Sports, Inc., Dickies Underwear and Jumbo Plastic Linoleum.

Lovejoy Sto. Domingo gave Ano-os the much-needed support by drilling in 10 of her 15 points in the final quarter.

The Lady Falcons, on the other hand, leaned on the hot hands of Jamie Alcoy in the third quarter to pull off a 64-57 win over the Far Eastern University-Multi Motors and likewise notch their first win in three games.

Alcoy sparked the team’s decisive third quarter breakaway by scoring 10 of her 17 points that saw the Lady Falcons outscore the Lady Tamaraws, 23-11, for a 53-37 lead going into the final quarter.

In the other game, Ateneo San Miguel Corp. posted its second straight win by downing University of Santo Tomas, 56-53, behind Hazelle Yam and Jolina Go.
