4th People Power run slated at QC circle
MANILA, Philippines - The highly successful PNoy Sports will hold its fourth competition to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the People Power Revolution on February 15at the Liwasang Aurora, Quezon City Memorial Circle.
The fourth leg of the PNoy Sports Preventive Health Program is a continuation of the Yellow Ribbon Movement’s (YRM) campaign to re-live the spirit of ethnic sports in the Philippines and to bring back traditional Filipino games as a venue for bonding, competition and sportsmanship.
The event is made possible through YRM’s partnership with Councilor Mayen Juico and Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.
“We now go back to where we started at QC, in our continuous effort to make the Filipino children play traditional Filipino games,” said YRM chairman Margie Juico, the proponent of the campaign.
Juico is proud of the advocacy which had its third run at Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac, home of Ninoy and Cory Aquino, for whom the YRM was established. Two hundred children joined the North edition.
The first ever PNoy Sports event was in August 2013 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle participated in by 700 children and their 210 parents/guardians, and the second run in November 2013 where almost a thousand children from Akap sa Bata Foundation, Leyte and Apolinario Mabini Elementary School were brought to Rizal Park to join the games.
“I am sentimental about Pinoy games, as I grew up playing them on the streets. Nothing can beat that, not tablets or any gadget. And I am happy that we can be instruments for the children of today to get to know and play these games as well,” said Councilor Juico.
Rap artist Wilson G is the event’s special guest; he will let the participants hear his famous compositions, which he also rendered during the Tarlac event.
