Petron Blaze karting unwraps this weekend

MANILA, Philippines - The 2015 Petron Blaze 100 KF Karting Super Series kicks off this weekend with Bobby Domingo of Formula-E Racing leading 40 of the country’s top senior and junior karters in various divisions at the Carmona racetrack in Carmona, Cavite.

Events on tap are the KF Senior Blaze 100, KF Junior Blaze 100, KF Mini-ROK XCS, KF Restricted Petron Blaze 100, KF Master Blaze 100, Formula Cadet Novice Ultron and Formula Cadet Expert Ultron.

The series, sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, and Yokohama as the official tires, has been a solid training ground for local karters gearing up for various international competitions like the Asian Karting Open Championships and the CIK-FIA World Karting Championship.

This year’s battle for the premiere KF Senior Blaze 100 plum is expected to go down-to-the-wire among the top three top karters – defending champion Domingo, comebacking 2012 Karter of the Year VJ Suba of Formula-E Racing and last year’s Junior Karter of the Year Seaoil-DC karter Gabe Tayao Cabrera.

Out to spoil their bid are Wayne Darvin, Jerry Choi, Carl Luig and Benjamin Grimes.

It will also be a test of endurance as the field slugs it out in four rounds in the two-day event with Paul Laurence Tan, Jerry Choi, Jericke Don Holganza, Ronn Catindig, Rhett Holganza, Mervin John Mallen, Chris Bendel, Marvin Sy and Guiseppe Andrighetto heading the cast in the KF Master Blaze 100 Class.

Jacob Ang, meanwhile, of Eagle Cement is tipped as the man to beat in the KF3 Junior Blaze division that also includes John Dizon, Larco Cortez, Keith Co, Mikey Jordan, Samuel Grimes, Wils Casequin, Draeco Mc/Lelland and former Cadet Karter of the Year and AAP awardee Tai Zulberti.

Young guns Flynn Jackes, the defending champion, and Bobby Redpath of Team Kart Master Drakar of Singapore, and Eduardo Coseteng of Eagle Cement are expected to dispute the KF Restricted Petron Blaze 100 title.

The KF Junior Blaze and KF Restricted Petron Blaze 100 classes will stage Round 1 on Saturday with Round 2 set Sunday/

Jackes, Redpath and Coseteng are also the top contenders in the KF Mini-ROK XCS along with Spencer Troy Cortez, Jarred Kim and Rap Rap Gutierrez. The Formula Cadet Expert Ultron will be led by Zach David and Joaquin Garrido while Constantin Riesch and Inigo Anton of Kart Plaza, the 10-year-old son of multi-titled car racing champ Carlos Anton, will banner the Formula Cadet Novice Ultron class.
