Tryouts underway for women's national basketball team

MANILA, Philippines -- Newly appointed Philippine women’s basketball team head coach Patrick Henry Aquino, who steered the National University Lady Bulldogs to the UAAP championship, is currently conducting tryouts for the national squad at the 3rd floor of the SGS Building at 1335 Araneta Ave., Barangay Sto. Domingo, Quezon City.

Tryouts are being held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on February 4, 7, 9, 10 and 11. Succeeding dates will be announced later. Those  interested may call 0917-8686234 for more details

Automatic candidates are players from the national pool of previous Coach Haydee Ong as preparations go full blast to complete the 12-player lineup for the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) tournament and the Southeast Asian Games, the latter set in Singapore in June.

From more than 40 players, Aquino, who is encouraging current national pool players to join the tryouts, plans to trim down the list to 20 before coming up with the final 12.

Tuneup games in Thailand are slated for the national team from March 28 to April 4.
