MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Uno High School outplayed Makati Gospel Church-New Life Christian Academy in overtime, 68-63, to enhance its quarterfinal bid in the second Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) basketball tournament at the Uno High Gym in Tondo, Manila over the weekend.
Kenrick Kok took over from the cramp-stricken Kyke Tan in the extra period, scoring five points, including a tough jumper that gave the UHS side a 67-60 lead with 1:58 left in the contest.
MGC-NLCA’s Sean Patrick Uy forced the first overtime of the tournament with a free throw with 4.8 seconds left for a 57-all count,
Though he failed to finish the game, Tan still managed to register his fifth double-double in six games – and fourth in a row – with 27 points and 16 rebounds. Kok backed him up with 23 points, six rebounds and six steals.
In the other game, Jubilee Christian Academy cruised to a 68-54 victory over Saint Peter the Apostle School for its third victory in five matches for a share of fourth with idle Philippine Cultural College.
