Manny, Floyd go separate ways; no word on superfight

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao is off to Washington today to attend the National Prayer Breakfast meeting among over 3,000 religious leaders from around the world.

President Barack Obama will address the meeting that will also be graced by other heads of state, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Dalai Lama of Tibet.

This time, there will be no chance encounter with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Previous reports said Pacquiao will have an audience with the US President, whom the Filipino boxer visited at the White House in 2011.

But Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz, told The STAR that a meeting with Obama is not in the itinerary. If it happens, then it happens.

“I don’t know who put that up. We don’t have any first-hand knowledge on that,” he said.

Pacquiao is in Los Angeles enjoying his time with wife Jinkee and friends, and continues to await word from Mayweather.

Pacquiao was everywhere the past couple of weeks, from London where he met Prince Harry to Miami where he judged the Miss Universe pageant.

Pacquiao will be back in Manila next week.

Talks between the two boxing superstars are still on. It reached peak proportions last week when they met in an NBA game in Miami.

FightHype.com repoted that Mayweather told the Pacquiao camp to “stop lying” about the fight being sealed and done when there’s nothing in it.

A second meeting took place in Pacquiao’s hotel suite in Miami but no information ever came out of it.

Koncz, however, said it was a “productive” meeting.

The other day, Pacquiao’s chief adviser refused to issue any more comments about the negotiations, saying, “It’s time to keep quiet.”

Mayweather cut short all the anticipation of a major announcement by flying to Jamaica, saying he’s enjoying his time “while they continue lying about the fight.”

Yesterday, the 37-year-old Mayweather posted another picture of him on the beach.

“Time to head to the next destination. Tell the pilots to gas the jet up. I’m on my way,” said Mayweather.
