Millet starts title defense with big win in Northern series

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Defending Expert champion Arvin Millet of TEMZ flaunted his supremacy anew when he dominated the Expert class anew in the kickoff of the 2015 Philippine Drag Racing Championship Northern Series at the Clark International Speedway.

The 21-year-old native of Tarlac turned back another rising star, his very own cousin Jannery Millet, in their closely fought finals showdown to start the year on the right track in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Clark International Motor Show (CIMS), M&H, Sparco, Aguila Auto Glass and GT Radials.

A new record field of 170 drivers competed in the drag racing season launch as the encounters continued late in the evening and finished at 11 p.m.

Arvin Millet went through a lot of tough encounters, the last against Jeffrey Crisostomo who fell into a red light violation to forge the title duel against Jannery who had a slight rest taking a bye to the finals.

The Millet cousins were almost neck-and-neck during the first 300 meters until Arvin made his move midway the quarter-mile course to pull ahead and win the Expert title clocking 12.992 seconds.

Jannery was just close behind with a time of 13.103 seconds for the runner-up crown while Crisostomo took third place.

Sharing the limelight with Arvin Millet were Joseph Samaniego and Benok Licudine.

Samaniego pulled a big upset when he outlasted veteran campaigner Sherwin Jay Esguerra to emerge the Sportsman class champion.

Samaniego uncorked a great start as he finished his run in 14.993 seconds against Esguerra’s time of 15.137 that earned the runner-up honors.
