The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -- Ateneo held on to beat University of the Philippines, 8-6, keeping the reigning UAAP baseball champions unbeaten Thursday at the Rizal
Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Blue Eagles were comfortably ahead, 7-2, after Matt Laurel scored a run, his fourth in the game, in the sixth inning when the Fighting Maroons made a last ditch rally, only to fell short in their upset bid.

University of Santo Tomas also won a close one over Adamson, 12-10, to join Ateneo on top with a 2-0 slate.

Former champions National University rallied past last season’s runners-up La Salle, 8-7, as the Bulldogs belted two runs at the bottom ninth to tie their victims at 1-1.

The Falcons and the Maroons fell to 0-2.
