The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Makati Gospel Church-New Life Christian Academy registered two wins last week to close in on leader Saint Jude Catholic School in the second Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) basketball competition at the Uno High School Gym in Tondo, Manila.

With Sean Tan, Carl Ong and Aaron Uy coming through with yet another stellar performance, Makati Gospel Church outlasted Saint Peter the Apostle School, 66-53, last Saturday for its fourth win in five games in the annual tournament.

Ong posted a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds while Tan and Uy chipped in 19 and 11 points, respectively, aside from combining for 19 boards.

The win was a fitting sequel to its 60-37 drubbing of winless Grace Christian College last Saturday.

Earlier Saturday, Jubilee Christian Academy scored its second win in three starts by downing Philippine Cultural College, 57-50, thanks to the inspired performance of Paolo Lim (18 points), John Cheng (15) and Lance Tan (11 pts, 10 rebs).

Defending champion Uno High School drew 24 points and 20 boards from Christian Tan and picked up its third win with a 59-53 win over Pace Academy.

Saint Jude Catholic School remained undefeated in the eight-school tournament by crushing Uno HS last Tuesday, 95-58, for its fifth straight win.
