10-year-old Inigo Anton makes waves

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Young racing protégé Inigo Anton of Castrol-Yokohama Racing Team wowed the crowd anew when he topped the race car division against older and more experienced rivals in the recently concluded Touge Battle held at Clark International Speedway.

The 10-year-old son of Philippine racing champion Carlos Anton was thrown into the deep end of the pool against veteran racing champions in the toughest class but showed he was ready to deal with the pressure.

Anton qualified as second fastest and had to battle it out with Miko Sy of Manila in order to make it to the finals. He was able to beat Sy after the latter made a crucial mistake and spun in the hairpin curve of the track, paving the way for Anton to battle against the top qualifier and 2012 Group 3 Hill climb champion Borek Fallorin of Team GR Tuning.

Anton had a perfect start and kept the gap against Fallorin all throughout the stage, finally beating Fallorin by just 0.2 of a second to secure the biggest win of his career to date.

“I’m so happy to win and I thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity to be able to race even if I am just 10 years old,” the young Anton said.

“Inigo did something today that is almost beyond belief. To be up against top racers and win shows how much talent he has.  We hope Mark Young Racing, Works-Bell and Mohspeed continue to support him throughout his career,” Carlos Anton said.
