DLS-Z winningest in interschool golf

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - La Salle-Zobel scooped up the most awards with three team and two individual victories even as the Philippine University-Cavite asserted its might in the seniors division in the rain-shortened ICTSI-JGFP National Inter-School golf finals at the Player course of the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

The Zobel contingent prevailed convincingly in Juniors and Midgets 2 and eked out a five-point victory in Girls 2 play but was denied a fourth win by Ateneo in the Midgets 1 division of the event bankrolled by the International Container Terminal Services, Foundation Inc., which was reduced to 18 holes when the organizing Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines cancelled the first round due to a forecast of bad weather.

La Salle actually claimed a fourth title in the tourney also supported by the Philippine Golf Foundation, Martin Lorenzo, Golf Depot and Inquirer Golf when the trio of Keena Puzon and sisters Christine and Michelle Chua won unchallenged in Girls 1 for college players.

Aniceto Mandanas (51), Liam Cully (47), Steven Ferrer (43), Jets Sajulga (41) and Derrico Dimaunahan (40) aggregated 141 under the five-to-play, three-to-count format for a 17-point DLSZ win in Juniors, Kim Tae-soo (46), Miguel Ilas (43), David Guangko (39) and Marc Nolasco (38) totalled 89 to win Midgets by 12 while Pauline del Rosario (53), Nicole Abelar (42) and Annika Guangko (40) claimed the third DLSZ win with their 90 in Girls 2.

Rupert Zaragosa as expected delivered the big points for Lyceum with his 53 but the 48s of Luigi Guerrero and Jelbert Gamolo proved decisive in their eight-point win over La Salle-Taft, 149-141.

Ateneo’s lone win came in the Midgets 1 with Aidric Chan (53), Marc Corrales (48), Carl Corpus (47), Riggs Illescas (44) and Mio Castañeda finishing 25 points ahead. Immaculate Concepcion Academy’s Mariel Tee, Justine Teh and Venice Ngo took Girls 3

Winning individual titles for La Salle Zobel were del Rosario (Girls 2) and Ramos in their respective divisions.
