MANILA, Philippines - The Adamson Lady Falcons try to arrest a two-game skid and vault back into the top four today against the Santo Tomas Tigresses, a side determined to revive its own bid in the UAAP Season 77 women’s volleyball tourney at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
The Lady Falcons (3-4) gun for their fourth win and a share of fourth with idle University of the Philippines in the 4 p.m. main outing of a twin bill that also pits the Far Eastern U Lady Tams (3-5) versus winless University of the East (0-8) at 2 p.m.
Adamson started the season with a 3-2 win-loss card but sputtered in the windup to the first round, to drop to the bottom half of the standings.
“Marami pa kaming dapat i-improve sa second round (We need to improve on a lot of things in the second round0,’ said AdU coach Sherwin Meneses., who expects a “tough grind” in the battle for No. 4. “Magiging mahirap ang labanan lalo na sa fourth.”
The Tigresses, meanwhile, ended a five-game slump via a 21-25, 27-25, 25-16, 25-23 victory over Far Eastern U in their last outing in the first round and they hope to gain momentum from this to possibly salvage a semis berth.
“At 2-5, we need five to six games (wins). Dapat makaganti kami sa five teams na tumalo sa amin. Mahirap mabaon (We have to get back at the five teams that beat us in the first round as we can’t afford to get stuck at the bottom),” said UST coach Odjie Mamon.
“Somebody reminded me may sitwasyon before ang team na 2-5 sa first round (there’s a similar 2-5 start before) and they ended up winning the UAAP crown. Sinabi ko rin sa mga bata iyon (I relayed it to the players),” he added.
