University of the Philippines booters regain top spot

MANILA, Philippines - University of the Philippines took the lead at the end of the first round, as Jinggoy Valmayor’s hat trick propelled his side to a 3-1 victory over defending champion Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 77 men’s football tournament yesterday at the FEU-Diliman pitch.       

Valmayor scored after a Tamaraws misplay on the 64th minute and converted a spot kick on a Joshua Mulero handball on the 87th minute which keyed the Fighting Maroons victory in a rematch of last season’s championship series.       

UP, which is seeking to reclaim the title it last won in 2012, now has 16 points on five wins, one draw and a loss.
