SJCS, PCC stay unbeaten in PCYAA caging

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Cultural College (PCC) crushed newcomer Pace Academy (PA), 71-37, in the Juniors division of the second Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) basketball tournament at the Uno High School Gym in Tondo, Manila last Saturday.

Lester Cai starred anew for the Seagulls, scoring 19 points – most of them coming in the first two quarters – that set the tone for the team’s runaway win in the eight-team tournament.

Cai had 24 markers in the team’s 65-52 win over the Uneans in the opener last Tuesday that also saw its Aspirants team score a 42-34 win over Uno High.

Saint Jude Catholic School kept abreast with PCC following an 87-39 drubbing of the debuting Makati Gospel Church in the other Juniors game.

Streak-shooting Renzel Yongco knocked down six triples to lead the Judenites with 26 points. Maynard Yap backed him up with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Yongsco had 16 points, six boards, three assists and three steals in the team’s 81-52 rout of Grace Christian College in the opener of the six-week tournament.

The Uneans rebounded from a stinging defeat to the Seagulls with a 74-63 victory over Saint Peter the Apostle Church after getting a career-high 31 points, six rebounds and three steals from lanky Kenric Kok and 20 points and eight boards from Kyle Christian Tan.

Jubilee Christian Academy made a successful debut by cruising to a 76-42 win over winless Grace Christian College.  John Cheng and Paolo Lim combined for 47 points for JCA, which got off to a 16-0 start and never looked back.
