Fil-Brit retains 2014 Singapore cadet title

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Alex Brown, a Filipino-British karter based in Singapore, dominated the field to retain the 2014 Singapore Cadet Championship in the Singapore Karting Championship series recently.

So outclassed were his rivals that Brown has sealed the title even before the final race of the final five rounds was flagged off.

“It’s been a hard year with very strong competition but this is what makes racing enjoyable for me. And this is what makes winning the title for two years even more awesome,” said Brown.

Aside from winning the title, Brown holds the official best lap time of the season in the series organized and promoted by the Singapore Motor Sports Association.

He also placed eighth among over 30 entries on his rookie year in the Malaysia 2014 Rotax Max Challenge series, which featured top racers from all over Asia.

Brown intends to participate in the same series next year and win the title this time. He is also seeking to join the World Karting Series in Italy where he hopes to make an impact right in his debut on the world stage.

Brown was born in Singapore but has maintained close ties with his relatives in the Philippines. His mother, Tessa Dimaano Brown, moved to Hong Kong for work after her graduate studies. She then decided to settle in Singapore in 2000 to start up her own market research company.

Brown father is a British national working in the banking industry in Singapore. He dedicates his win to his grandma Ramona and hopes to become the first Filipino F1 driver.
