Airline tickets add to top prize loot
Globalport team owner Mikee Romero beat the deadline to deliver P15,000 in cash and two AirAsia round-trip tickets to any domestic location as additional loot to the pool of prizes for the 20 winners of our Christmas Contest. The winners were advised to claim their prizes at The Philippine Star office in Port Area at 10 this morning.
Also beating the deadline were Rain Or Shine (TCL 29-inch TV, 24 T-shirts, 6 umbrellas), Purefoods (20 T-shirts), Manny Pacquiao Promotions (two sets of boxing gloves, four caps and three pairs of shorts, all personally autographed by Pacquiao), BEST Center (10 basketballs, 20 T-shirts), NLEX (P10,000 in cash) and Lamoiyan Corp. (20 bags, each with a towel, toothpaste and toothbrush).
First prize winner Fundador Soriano, a 76-year-old retired mediaman, will take home a bundle including P50,000 in cash, a TV from Rain Or Shine, two AirAsia round-trip tickets and an assortment of goodies. Second prize winner Josephine Ramos, 41, will receive P20,000 in cash and a host of products. Third prize winner Roel Abe, 44, will get P10,000 in cash and a gift package. Fourth prize winner Dalton Chiong, 27, will receive P5,000 worth of SM gift certificates from Robert Aventajado of the Philippine Taekwondo Association. Fifth prize winner Augusto Mendoza, 66, will be given P5,000 worth of Planet Sports gift certificates from Anton Gonzalez and a gift package. Sixth prize winner Tony Gioketo, 42, will get P5,000 worth of Planet Sports gift certificates and a gift package. The seventh to 20th prize winners will receive a hefty gift package apiece.
Over a thousand entries came in and we chose 20 winners with the correct answers to our three questions and essays on why sports should or should not be a priority in our national government agenda. Excerpts of some essays will be published in tomorrow’s column.

In all, we collected P147,500 in cash from the Philippine Sports Commission (P50,000), Blackwater/Ever Bilena (P20,000), The Herma Group (P15,000), Globalport (P15,000), The ALA (Antonio Lopez Aldeguer) Group (P12,500), Philippine Olympic Committee (P10,000), NLEX (P10,000), Miguel Belmonte of The Philippine Star (P10,000) and Games and Amusements Board chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon (P5,000). Of the total amount, we set aside P80,000 for our top three Christmas Contest winners, P50,000 for SAGIP (Saklolo At Gabay Ng Ina’t Pamilya) Foundation of Muntinlupa and P17,500 for The Philippine Star fund drive to assist Samboy Lim.
