Rapper 50 Cent says Floyd won’t fight Manny

Dino Maragay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson should know Floyd Mayweather Jr. from head to toe, having been best buddies before.

The multi-awarded rapper was recently asked about the chances of his former friend facing Manny Pacquiao in a long-overdue megabout. Jackson isn’t counting on it.

“I really don’t see that fight taking place. I don’t see him taking that fight, I don’t know. I know Floyd and I know [that he feels] he doesn’t have to,” Jackson told Bill Emes in boxingscene.com article.

Jackson and Mayweather had been inseparable prior to their bitter falling out, but both are still heavily invested in boxing with the former now also a licensed boxing promoter.

The boxing world, meanwhile, is keeping a close eye on Mayweather finally agreeing to fight Pacquiao, who is coming off a dominant win over Chris Algieri in Macau last month. The Filipino icon is keen on facing Mayweather and has been very vocal about it unlike before.

Pacquiao insists the fans deserve to see him and Mayweather get in the ring together in what is perceived to be the richest fight in history.

Jackson, for his part, said Mayweather doesn’t share the same sentiment.

“He (Mayweather) knows that no matter how they (fans) feel, they will watch the next one (Mayweather fight regardless of the opponent) and he’ll leave when he’s ready to leave boxing on top,” he explained.

Jackson then pointed out that Mayweather should be blamed if the fight does not take place.

“A lot of the choices he makes is collective, it’s not just him. It’s his whole team. But when I get mad I blame it on him, I say it was him,” he added.

Jackson’s promotional company, SMS Promotions, features former champions Yuriorkis Gamboa and Billy Dib among others.
