Aces dominate Slammers sans Federer

MANILA, Philippines – The Micromax Indian Aces won their first match in the Dubai leg of the International Premier Tennis League on Friday despite the absence of World No. 2 Roger Federer.

The Aces took all but one of the five sets against the DBS Singapore Slammers on Thursday.

Ana Ivanovic gave the Aces the lead in the opening set, outlasting Daniel Hantuchova, 6-5.

Fabrice Santoro dominated Patric Rafter, 6-3, to give the Aces the second set of the match.

The third set also belonged to the Aces, 6-5, courtesy of  the tandem of Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza against Bruno Soares and Hantuchova, 6-5.

Bopanna and Gael Monfils took the fourth set for the Aces, 6-4 against Soares and Lleyton Hewitt.

Thomas Berdych gave the Slammers their only win in the match, 8-4 against  Monfils.
