MANILA, Philippines - Garvo Lanete tallied a game-high 15 points while Bobby Ray Parks and Scottie Thompson added 11 apiece to power the Hapee Fresh Fighters to a lopsided 65-43 win against Wangs Basketball on Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.
The well-rested Fresh Fighters never encountered any problem against the overmatched Couriers, needing just 20 minutes to secure their sixth straight win and once again assume the solo lead.
“The guys just showed tremendous effort to win. This game allowed us to do some combinations that we could use in future games,” said Hapee coach Ronnie Magsanoc, his left leg wrapped in brace after injuring it during a game with his fellow legend last week.
Hapee took the first quarter at 16-12 before ripping the game in the second by holding the Couriers to 1 of 18 shooting in the period. The Fresh Fighters outscored their rivals, 19-2, in the second quarter and led 35-14 at the break.
“Hopefully, we could sustain the momentum,” Magsanoc said.
In the first game, Tanduay Light overcame a sloppy start and beat MP Hotel, 69-58.
