MANILA, Philippines - Three notable triathletes are set to test their endurance and racing skills in the much-awaited Enervon Activ 226 Bohol Triathon which will fire off at 7 a.m. tomorrow at The Bellevue Resort in Panglao, Bohol.
Don Velasco of Sante Barley, Juan Jose Bonnin of TRAIN of Bacolod and Christopher McFaul from Singapore are set to engage for the third time hoping to improve on their past performance in the event organized by Bike King under Raul Cuevas and supported by Unilab Active Health, Enervon HP, AboitizPower, Aboitiz, Gatorade, OtterBox, Orbea, TIMEX, Maxxis, Shimano, Energizer, the Municipality of Panglao (led by Mayor Leonila Montero) and the province of Bohol (led by Gov. Edgar Chatto).
Velasco and Bonnin had their best performance in 2012 when they respectively recorded 11:09 and 15:43 clocking while McFaul was at his best in 2011 with 14:29 mark. A veteran of numerous long distance triathlon events, Velasco will see action in the 25-29 age bracket going up against seven other rivals.
Bonnin will try to stamp his mark in the 50-54 while McFaul will compete in the 40-44 age group which has lured the most number of participants with 23 triathletes.
Close to a hundred competitors are taking part in the lung-busting 3.8 Km swim – 180 Km bike – 42 Km race that is making a return after being shelved last year when Bohol was hit by a magnitude seven earthquake. The cut-off for the race is at 17 hours.
Adding spice to the competition that also has the support of Men’s Health and The Philippine Star as media partners, are the nine lady triathletes who are doing the only iron distance race in the country.
