Cabrera top Phl karter, Asian karting prince

MANILA, Philippines - Seaoil-DC karter Gabriel Tayao Cabrera achieved his long-time dream of delivering international glory for the country after crowning himself Asian Karting Prince in the recently concluded 2014 Asian Karting Open Championships Series at the Carmona Racetrack in Carmona, Cavite.

In a superb display of skills, Cabrera upstaged the seasoned and more experienced senior rivals in capturing the ROK overall plum making him local karting’s No. 1 driver this season.

Aside from claiming the coveted Junior Karter of the Year plum of the local series, Gabe raised the Philippine flag high as he stamped his mark as the first Filipino in years to emerge Asian Karting’s Formula 125 Open Juniors champion.

He was supported by Point Zero Project, Media Magic and Imola Industries.

“It has been a very busy season with the target goals we were eyeing to achieve this year.  We’re happy that we captured the overall KF3 first runner-up honors, the ROK Junior and ROK overall crowns, and made it as Junior Karter of the Year,” said Cabrera.

“But earning the distinction as Asian Karting Prince truly made me prouder as a Filipino.  I’m grateful for this rare opportunity to serve and fight for the country, and moreover for the huge honor to wave the country’s flag high in such a prestigious international karting event,” he added.

Cabrera wrapped up his campaign with a total of 109 points. He finished second in the final leg but it was enough since he already had the Asian Formula 125 Open Juniors title in the bag after the first Philippine leg last August.
