Surigao takes control in Fil-Am
MANILA, Philippines - Team Surigao 2 drew a pair of 27s from Benny Hurtado and Ariel Javelosa as it pooled a 102 to seize a five-point lead over Yokosan and The Saturday Group-Lipa at the start of the 65th San Miguel Fil-Am Invitational golf tournament at Camp John Hay in Baguio City yesterday.
Ed Isidro and John Bertis added 26 and 22 points, respectively, for the Surigao 2 squad, which took charge in the 12-team Fil D flight.
Mike Echada and Nelson Ventura scored 28 points each as they led Yokosan and The Saturday Group-Lipa, respectively, for identical 97s.
Vincent Tiong shot 22 points as Rural Bankers 2 assembled a 76 to wrest a two-point lead over San Miguel in Am D at the Baguio Country Club course.
Pat Hernandez, Renato Manongdo and Eduardo Bucag added 21, 17 and 16, respectively, for the Bankers.
San Miguel got a pair of 20s from Luis Sison and Rolly Valdez while Joey Castro and Che Flores added 20 and 18, respectively.
Elmer Soria turned in 21 points as Team Surigao shot a 69 for third.
Pugo Adventures rallied from four points down to beat Megafiber by two and capture the seniors Fil Championship crown last week.
Meanwhile, Tom Panis, a local realty developer, won a brand new Toyota Vios in the raffle draw during the seniors awards rites.
