MANILA, Philippines - Prayers from the PBA community and fans poured for Samboy Lim as the well-loved cage great continued to fight for his life at the intensive care unit of Medical City in Pasig yesterday.

“Medical City Hospital will be releasing a statement soon in response to a lot of inquiries. To all Samboy’s friends and loving fans, please continue to pray for him,” an elder sister of Lim posted on Facebook.

“We need more prayers. Samboy is fighting for his life. We need to tell the Lord that Sam is still needed here on earth. Heaven can wait,” she added.

A former national player and PBA Hall of Famer, Lim collapsed during a Legends Game at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig and was rushed unconscious to the nearby Medical City Friday night.

“The game had just started. He (Lim) had played about five to six minutes and had just been subbed by Vince Hizon when he collapsed,” said Bogs Adornado who’s calling the shots for the Legends versus a Resorts World team under Pido Jarencio.

After the incident, the game was cancelled with Lim’s fellow PBA legends all trooping to the hospital.

Adornado, Alvin Patrimonio, Allan Caidic, Jerry Codiñera and Nelson Asaytono were among those at the hospital with Lim’s family Friday night.

Lim’s family appeals for understanding from media, friends and fans as doctors issued no-visitors-allowed orders.

They said the next hours are critical in determining his mental and physical condition.

Many were shocked of the incident especially as Lim, a workout freak, is deemed to be in great shape.
