Algieri feeling good, looking good for bout

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MACAU – Chris Algieri had seen enough of Manny Pacquiao’s fights he didn’t need help from YouTube to learn more about the Filipino champion.

Algieri said he focused on getting stronger and getting better. He said his trainers, Tim Lane and Keith Trimble, took care of the video aspect.

“I left the tape review to my coaches,” said Algieri, out to preserve his unbeaten record as a boxer when he meets Pacquiao at the Cotai Arena on Sunday.

Algieri grew old watching Pacquiao rule the sport, and he said it should give him enough of what he needs to visually prepare for this fight.

“I’ve seen majority of Pacquiao’s fights and I’m very familiar with his style,” he said.

Algieri admitted that he’s not yet in the same league as Pacquiao but everything will change during or after Sunday’s fight.

Those who didn’t believe in him will start believing.

“I understand that,” he said on how people view him as a challenger to the only boxer in history with world titles in eight different weight classes.

“I haven’t been around the major fights so I understand that assumption. But on fight night I will change that thinking,” he said.

Algieri and his team did everything they could in training.

If it doesn’t work against Pacquiao, then nothing else would.

“I have a great team around me. They keep me in check, making sure that I’m feeling good and looking good,” he said.

On looking good, they’ve done a good job.
