Peñalosa predicts easy fight for Manny

MACAU – Former world champion Gerry Peñalosa is on the same page with the oddsmakers saying that this is going to be an easy fight for Manny Pacquiao.

“Easy fight, easy money,” said the retired Filipino boxer who had become a regular fixture in Pacquiao fights. 

His two brothers, Dodie Boy, also a former champion, and Jonathan are now official members of Pacquiao’s training team. 

Gerry knows Pacquiao better than most people around the reigning WBO welterweight champion. He thinks he also knows Chris Algieri well enough.

“Manny will put him down. But Algieri has shown that he can get up. He will not give up easily,” said Gerry as he watched Pacquiao train here at the Venetian Hotel.

Gerry was referring to Algieri’s come-from-behind victory over Ruslan Provodnikov last June when he got up from two knockdowns in the first round to win by decision.

Algieri, according to Gerry, was able to outbox Provodnikov in the remaining rounds because the Russian fighter was slow.

“Manny is the fastest boxer so Algieri cannot outbox him,” he said.

Gerry said if Algieri goes down but doesn’t give up, he sees the American corner throwing in the towel or the referee jumping in to halt the fight.

“Ma-stop yan,” he said.

Gerry said he hasn’t seen Pacquiao without a smile on his face when he’s outside the ring during the entire camp.

He said it’s a very good sign.

“I see him eating a lot and for a boxer to enjoy that is a good sign, too. He eats what he wants to eat,” said Peñalosa.

“I see a stoppage in this fight. Or Algieri will suffer a lot of damage. Masisira ang mukha niya. Pogi pa naman siya,” said Gerry.

“Mag-artista na lang siya (He better be an actor),” he added.
