MANILA, Philippines - Sealions surprised erstwhile unbeaten Siargao Legends, 108-102, in overtime to claim the top spot in Group B at the close of the elims in the fourth DELeague Invitational basketball tournament at the Marikina Sports Center, Marikina City Thursday night.

Maeng Junio buried back-to-back triples to give the Sealions a 104-102 lead with 35 seconds left in extra period.

“We were not expecting to be ranked first because the opponents were tough. We were already expecting to lose until Junio sank two three-pointers. We hope to keep our momentum,” said Sealions playing assistant coach Egay Billiones.

Billiones finished with 36 points, the last two from the stripe that sealed the victory. He also had eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.

“This is basketball. The odds of losing is always there. They (Sealions) played brilliantly,” said Legends’ head coach Ronjay Enrile. “Good thing we’re still there despite our loss.”

Hobe-JVC swept Group A with an 86-81 victory over Uratex Foam as Jeff Sanders shot 16 markers and Mike Warnest added 15 points.

Meanwhile, Uratex takes on Kawasaki-Marikina while Supremo Lex-Builders battles Philippine National Police in tonight’s quarterfinal matches.

Team Mercenary clashes with MBL Selection while FEU-NRMF and Cars Unlimited collide in the other quarters matches tomorrow. Tickets, pegged at P10, are available at the playing venue.
