Davis powers Pelicans past Kings 106-100

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Anthony Davis had 28 points and nine rebound to help the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Sacramento Kings 106-100 on Tuesday night.

Ryan Anderson hit four 3-pointers and scored 22 points for the Pelicans, who outscored the Kings 31-15 in the third. Tyreke Evans had 18 points, and Eric Gordon scored 17.

DeMarcus Cousins had 24 points and 17 rebounds for Sacramento, which dropped to 3-2 at home.Darren Collison added 13 points and 11 assists, and Jason Thompson finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Evans, who had 11 fourth-quarter points, made an off-balance shot over Cousins from close range and Davis converted one of two free throws, giving New Orleans a 103-97 lead with 28.8 seconds to go.

The Pelicans trailed 54-45 at halftime, but Davis and Anderson led the way during the big third period. Davis got free numerous times inside and had 10 points and Anderson made three 3-pointers to help New Orleans to a 76-69 lead heading into the fourth.

Behind the scoring of Evans and Gordon, the Pelicans built a 98-87 lead. But Sacramento responded with seven unanswered points and Cousins delivered a three-point play, cutting the lead to three points with 1:09 left.

Pelicans: Starting C Omer Asik missed his second straight game due to lower back pain. Alexis Ajinca started in his place. ... Evans is 14 for 30 from 3-point range this season. In four of the past five seasons, he shot 29 percent or less, including 22 percent last year.

Kings: Prior to the game, Gay signed a $40 million, three-year contract extension. The formal announcement will take place Wednesday. ... Thompson had 10 points in the opening quarter.
