Del Rosario moves to 2nd round in WBC
MANILA, Philippines - As expected, the Philippines’ Liza del Rosario advanced to the next round of the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Friday at the Sky Bowling Center in Wroclaw, Poland.
Del Rosario, who came second in 2001 in Pattaya, Thailand, carded 4439 pinfalls to finish second after the 20-game qualifying series and trail frontrunning Brittni Hamilton of the United States by 45 pins.
Amandine Jacques from France needed a 170 in the last game to make it through to the next round and she hit 189.
The next stage is a further eight games to determine the top eight who will go through to the round robin stage of the tournament. At present, Daria Kovalova of Ukraine is in eighth spot on 4314, ahead of Germany’s Martina Schutz (4303).
Defending champion Caroline Lagrange of Canada came in 13th on 4285 with two-time champion Aumi Guerra of the Dominican Republic finishing 17th on 4246.
Germany’s Tobias Bording continued to show the way in the men’s division with still one game left of the 20-game qualifying series. He is 170 pins ahead of Ukraine’s Mykaylo Kalika.
