MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Marcus Del Rosario and No. 2 Stephan Lhuillier disposed of their respective rivals to advance in the boys’ 14-under section of the 33rd PCA Open at the PCA indoor shell clay courts in Paco, Manila yesterday.
Del Rosario overpowered Jules Lazaro, 6-1, 6-4, while Lhuillier shut out Lance Matthew Sy, 6-0, 6-0, to roll into the quarterfinal round against Joshua Austria and Fhad Kenneth Banico, respectively.
Austria ousted Alexander Bulilan, 5-7, 7-5 (10-8) while Banico trampled Andrian Encinares, 6-0, 6-3.
No. 4 Karl Baran later joined them with a 6-2, 6-1 rout of Nicholas Balmes, for a Last 8 duel wtih Jose Maria Pague, who repulsed Norman Gaspar, 2-6, 6-4 (10-6).
Meanwhile, the top four players in the 10-under unisex category – Miguel Luis Vicencio, Rafael Liangco, Rupert Ohrelle Tortal and Macie Carlos – all moved into the quarters with Vicencio defeating James Rohan Cruz, 5-3, 5-3; Liangco beating Jude Hidalgo, 4-0, 5-3, Tortal blasting Von Carlo Saraza, 4-0, 4-0, and Carlos bundling out Rainier Angelo Selmar, 4-1, 4-2, respectively.
Mindanao bets Minette April Bentillo and Prince Najeeb Langitao also barged into the quarters with the fromer whipping Marielle Jarata, 4-0, 4-0, and the latter holding off Samuel Nuguit, 5-4 (6), 4-2.
Marc Andrei Jarata and Brent Signmond Cortes also advanced with a 4-0, 5-3 romp over Sherwin Rey Nuguit and a 5-4, 4-2 win over Pete Andre Rodriguez, respectively.
