MANILA, Philippines - University of Batangas trounced Computer Communication Development Institute of Sorsogon City, 79-61, at the start of the Southern Luzon-Bicol qualifying tournament of the Champions League (PCCL) National Collegiate Championship at the J.C. Lobredo Coliseum in Naga City.
In the other game, Naga College Foundation routed Amando Cope College, 100-72.
The winner of the qualifying tournament will advance to the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifying games.
Also under way are the North-Central Luzon regional games at the Lyceum Northwestern University gym in Dagupan City.
Taking part are University of Northern Philippines of Vigan, University of Baguio, Lyceum of Subic Bay of Zambales, La Finns Scholastica from La Union and the host school LNU.
The winners of Southern Luzon-Bicol and North-Central Luzon regional games will advance to the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifying games where they will join De La Salle University, Jose Rizal University, Centro Escolar University, University of Perpetual Help, St. Clare and Diliman College.
Teams already in the Elite Eight phase are UAAP champion National University, NCAA champion San Beda College, CESAFI titlist Southwestern University, Far Eastern University, Arellano University, University of San Carlos and University of Visayas.
