Billones powers Sealions in DELeague

MANILA, Philippines - Former PBA player Egay Billones sizzled with 27 points as t Sealions clobbered Marist Basketball League Selection, 94-75, for their second straight win in the fourth DELeague Invitational basketball tournament Tuesday night at the Marikina Sports Center covered court.

Billones had a field day scoring and got needed support from Ron Zagala (13) and Eric Rodriguez (10 markers, 11 boards) as the more experienced Sealions took the solo lead in Group B.

Alfren Gayosa netted 19 while Mike Ayonayon added 13 and Edward Olotu posted 10 points and 12 rebounds for the young Marist squad (0-1).

Meanwhile, Nic Belasco’s Team Mercenary bounced back from its opening-day loss with a 65-51 disposal of Cars Unlimited.

Ryan Wetherell fired 14 points while Mat Gevela contributed 13 and Vaughn Canta scored 11 markers for the Mercenaries, who led from start for finish.

Kevin Espinosa (9), Jay Berdan (7), Syril Santiago (6) and JR Alabansa (12 rebounds) led the way for Cars Unlimited, which absorbed its second straight loss.

The event is supported by Mayor Del De Guzman and sponsored by PCA Marivalley, St. Antony Hospital, PS Bank-Blue Wave Marquinton Branch, Luyong Restaurant, Mickies Equipment Sales and Rental, Tutor 911 and Toyota Motors Marikina.

Action continues today with Supremo Lex Builders-OLFU going up against defending champ Hobe JVC and Marist facing Willie Miller’s  Siargao Legends.
