Pedrosa meets Alcala in Toby’s badminton final
MANILA, Philippines - PBA-Smash Pilipinas’ Ros Leenard Pedrosa and Sarah Joy Barredo secured a finals berth after smashing their separate opponents yesterday in the Toby’s Sports Karyn Velez Memorial Youth Badminton Championships 2014 at the Powersmash Badminton Center in Makati.
Pedrosa toppled Team Prima’s Neil Andrew Pineda, 21-10, 21-13, to reach the boys’ 19-under singles finals and face Allied Victor’s Mark Alcala, who demolished Wilson Joseph Lopez of PBA Smash Pilipinas, 21-17, 24-22.
Barredo pulled off a pulsating 26-24, 21-16 win over Mariya Angela Sevilla to advance to the girls’ 19-under final to set up a title showdown against nationals Airah Mae Nicole Albo, who rallied past Alyssa Geverjuan, 20-22, 21-4, 21-18.
All finalists of the event sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association and powered by Forthright Event will compete at Robinsons Place Manila Midtown Atrium over the weekend.
