MANILA, Philippines - PBA-Smash Pilipinas junior player Ros Leenard Pedrosa and Mark Shelley Alcala eased out their respective rivals in similar fashions to advance to the third round of the Toby’s Sports Karyn Velez Memorial Youth Badminton Championships at the Powersmash Badminton Center in Makati City.
Pedrosa routed Robin Jake Macatangay, 21-8, 21-6, in the boys’ 19-under section while Alcala of Team Allied Victor beat Kim Llanes of Team Prima, 21-14, 21-12, in the event sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association and powered by Forthright Event.
In girls’ 17-under class, top seed Janelle Anne Andres overpowered Avijah Hinanay, 21-4, 21-8, to seal a quarterfinal showdown with Aldreen Rae Concepcion, who whipped Alyssa Isabelle Chua, 21-14, 21-14.
Maria Alyssa Roxas of Golden Shuttlers Foundation ripped Kate Tating of Team Prima, also in girls’ 17-under class, 21-12, 21-14, to arrange the other quarters clash with Gianne Lavides, who edged Patrice Tiosejo, 19-21, 21-15, 23-21.
