CEU, Miriam claim WNCAA titles

MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University and Miriam College nailed two titles each to emerge the winningest squads after the 45th WNCAA first semester which ended over the weekend.

CEU bagged its fourth straight senior basketball title and unseated four-time winner Rizal Technological University in senior futsal.

Miriam, meanwhile, prevailed in the junior volleyball and futsal events.

Host La Salle College Antipolo took the junior cage championship over last year’s winner Chiang Kai Shek College while De La Salle Zobel ran away with its fourth straight midgets basketball title.

RTU, also the runner-up in senior basketball, dethroned San Beda College Alabang in senior volleyball while St. Paul College Pasig was midgets champion.

Named basketball Most Valuable Players were Janine Pontejos of CEU (senior), JC Mae Riel of LSCA (junior) and Akemi Marteja of DLSZ (midgets).  Volleyball MVPs were Shana Marie Costillas of RTU (senior), Ennah Elaine Ebreo of Miriam (junior) and Elizabeth Marianne Delgado of St. Paul (midgets).

Miriam’s Teresa Bernardo took the junior futsal MVP plum.

The league’s first and only tri-level league for women, being supported by Mikasa, Molten, OneA Bed and Breakfast, Goody, Monster Radio RX 93.1 and Aksyon TV, will resume early next year with competitions in badminton, swimming, taekwondo, lawn tennis, table tennis, softball and cheerleading and cheerdance (midgets only).
