NBA extends partnership with Solar Entertainment and ABS-CBN
MANILA, Philippines – The National Basketball Association (NBA) local broadcast rights will remain with Solar Entertainment Corporation (Solar) and ABS-CBN Corporation (ABS-CBN).
The NBA announced the multiyear extension on Friday in a press conference at the NBA Cafe Manila presided by NBA Asia Managing Director Scott Levy, Solar Entertainment Corporation President and CEO Wilson Y. Tieng, and Head of ABS-CBN Narrowcast March Ventosa, who were joined by NBA Legend Darryl Dawkins.
“Solar is one of our longest-standing global partners, and togetherwith ABS-CBN we are offering the most comprehensive coverage of the NBA in the Philippines,” said Levy. “As part of this partnership, we will create new and unique content tobringthe best NBA action to our passionate Filipino fans.”
Under the agreement, Solar, through its Basketball Television (BTV) and NBA Premium TV channels, and ABS-CBN through its ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Sports & Action channels, willbroadcast more than 30 NBA games per week. Solar and ABS-CBN will also continue to televise WNBA games and programming.
“We’ve come a long way from a simple idea in 2001 to bring the NBA to avid Filipino basketball fans,”said Tieng. “Fourteen years later through this partnership with the NBA and ABS-CBN, we are bringing the games to the broadest possible fanbase across the nation.”
Entering its 14th year as a partner of the NBA, Solar will continue to provide extensive exposure and promotion of all local NBA events including NBA 3X and Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA. ABS-CBN has broadcast NBA games since 2012 and through this new agreement, fans will have the opportunity to watch more NBA games, programming, and local event coverage on ABS-CBN’s free-to-air channels.
