Cone teams up with Iverson for cage clinic

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - First were former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) stars and the who’s who in collegiate basketball. Now it’s Grand Slam coach Tim Cone who has thrown his full support behind PCWorx’s “All In” charity basketball event.

Cone, the only two-time Grand Slam coach in Asia’s pioneering professional basketball league, will team up with former 11-time National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star and former MVP Allen Iverson for a basketball clinic on Nov. 3.

The clinic will be held at the Holy Spirit in Quezon City starting at 3 p.m. According to PCWorx managing director Michael Chua, the clinic is one of the events lined up for Iverson’s forthcoming Manila visit to be highlighted by the charity basketball event dubbed “All In” at the Mall of Asia Arena for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga.

“I’m so honored to work with one of the true legends of the NBA. Just his mere presence will excite everyone,” said the multi-titled San Mig Coffee head coach.

“Allen impacted a whole generation with his style and flair. Young people copied the way he played and copied the clothes he wore. He was also one of the great scorers in NBA history despite his height and frame, and he often carried teams on his back to the playoffs. He was a true winner on and off the court,” Cone added.

The clinic offers limited slots for young fans aged 10 to 15 years old for a fee of P2,500. Those interested may call (02) 575-1520 to reserve slots and other details.

Besides Cone, other noted PBA personalities who will be joining Iverson are Harvey Carey of Talk N’ Text, former MVP Willie Miller of Barako Bull, Sol Mercado and Chris Ross of San Miguel Beer and Jayjay Helterbrand of Bgy. Ginebra San Miguel.

Tickets to the “All In” fundraiser at the MOA Arena are still available online at www.smtickets.com, all SM Tickets outlets and all PCWorx branches.

The charity basketball event will pit the Selection team featuring former NBA stars Dermarr Johnson and Eddy Curry and composed of former PBA aces Jerry Codinera, Marlou Aquino, Renren Ritualo and Willie Miller and brothers Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo, De La Salle’s Almond Vosotros, Far Eastern University’s Mark Belo, National University’s Jeth Rosario, San Beda’s Javee Mocon and Ola Adeogun and San Sebastian’s Jaymar Perez.
