MANILA, Philippines -- A grandslam, history-making coach meets a worldwide basketball icon.
Tim Cone, the Philippine Basketball Association’s only two-time coach able to win grandslam championships with two different squads, will team up with former 11-time All-Star Allen Iverson for a basketball clinic on November 4.
To be held at Bgy. Holy Spirit in Quezon City at 3pm, the said clinic is one of the activities lined up for Iverson’s forthcoming Manila visit to be highlighted by a charity basketball event dubbed “All In” at the Mall of Asian Arena, presented by PCWorx, on November 5 for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga.
This early, Cone is already looking forward to his tie-up with the former NBA MVP.
“I’m so honored to work with one of the true legends of the NBA. Just his mere presence will excite everyone,” said the multi-titled San Mig Coffee mentor.
“Allen impacted a whole generation with his style and flair. Young people copied the way he played and copied the clothes he wore. He was also one of the great scorers in NBA history despite his height and frame, and he often carried teams on his back to the playoffs. He was a true winner on and off the court,” Cone added.
For his part, Iverson, a former NBA rookie draft pick in 1996, said he can’t wait to impart his basketball knowledge to young Filipinos.
“My Philippine agent, Sheryl Reyes, has told me about coach Tim and how he wrote history by winning championships in the PBA. I know how passionate and knowledgeable he is about the game, and us working together to teach Filipinos about the sport excites me a lot,” Iverson expressed in a phone interview. “November 3rd, it’s gonna be a lot of fun on the court.”
The said basketball clinic will have limited slots for aspirants aged 10-15 years old for a fee of P2,500. Those interested may call (02) 575-1520 to reserve their slots and other details.
Besides Cone, other noted PBA personalities who will be joining Iverson are Harvey Carey of Talk N’ Text, former MVP Willie Miller of Barako Bull, Sol Mercado and Chris Ross of San Miguel Beer, and Jayjay Helterbrand of Bgy. Ginebra San Miguel.
Meanwhile, tickets to the “All In” fundraiser at the MOA Arena are still available online at www.smtickets.com, all SM Tickets outlets, and all PCWorx branches.
