Fernando, Soyangco rule scooter, underbone series
MANILA, Philippines - Masato Fernando posted his third straight victory while Tracy Soyangco stunned the fancied bets in the fifth leg of the FDR Philippine Scooter Racing Championship Series and FDR Underbone King Championship Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Batangas recently.
Fernando re-stamped his class in the premiere 180cc PSR to firm up his lead in the Scooter series while Soyangco upended the top guns in the 150cc Open of the Underbone Series, both serving as part of the Motorsports Championship Season presented by Petronas.
Fernando, a former Underbone King, dominated his event, turning in the fastest laptime of 2:01.084 and wrapping up the six-lap race with a 5.344-second win over Josh Reuben Tan.
Nicolo Ramos took third place while Dustin Esguerra and Aljon Valencia checked in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event sanctioned by the Underbone and Scooters Racing Association (USRA).
The win hiked Fernando’s total to 103 points, four points ahead of Tan heading to today’s sixth and final leg at the Clark International Speedway.
Mark Indiongco ruled the 160cc PSR over Aljon Valencia and Jacob Navarro while Maiko Adapon paced the 130cc PSR over RR Espiritu and Gian Carlo Mauricio in the event backed by media partners Racing Beat @ Wave 89.1, Inside Motoring @ dzRJ810khz and Motorsiklo Xklusibo @ dzME 1530.
