Sta. Lucia Tour resumes at Alta Vista

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The 2014 Sta. Lucia Golf Tour resumes today with the staging of the Cebu leg at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club with Eagle Ridge out to firm up its bid for the Club of the Year award.

A strong 1-2 finish in Group II shoved Eagle Ridge to the top of the overall race after the first leg at Rancho Palos Verdes in Davao and was slightly ahead in the chase for the COY with 41 points.

But Eagle Ridge will be hard-pressed to dish out another superb performance in the 36-hole tourney serving as the Visayas stop of a nationwide series with Summit Point just one point behind at 40. Royale Tagaytay also stayed within striking distance with 35 points and loomed as the next top contender.

Beverly Place is in fourth with 23 points but the Pampanga-based squad needs to come up big with victories in any of the three divisions to catch up with the frontrunners.

Lakewood assembled 21 points while host Alta Vista had 19 followed by Rancho Palos Verdes with 16 points.

Orchard and Caliraya Springs trail the field with 12 points apiece in the event co-presented by PLDT Home, Royale Homes, Readycon, Marriot and OPMC.

Alta Vista’s Razi Razon and Jufil Sato (Group I), Eagle Ridge’s Eric Arbues and Raymundo del Rosario (Group II), Eduardo Aberin and Rodel Matias (Group III) and Mario Mercader and Maricel Amor (Group IV) won in their respective divisions in Davao.

“It will be exciting to watch how the teams will fare at Alta Vista as they go for a win for the momentum heading to the last leg in Luzon next month,” said Vincent Santos, who with Jason Robles run the tour as co-chair.

The Summit Point in Batangas and Eagle Ridge in Cavite will host the final leg on Oct. 16-19.
