The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Technological Institute of the Philippines-A and the junior cagers of  Xavier School and Far Eastern University stopped respective rivals last Sunday in the  12th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament at the Far Eastern University gymnasium in Morayta, Manila.

Brian Adamos and Kimley Medina scored key baskets at endgame, allowing the TIP-A Engineers to escape with a 77-74 win in overtime over University of Perpetual Help in Group A  of this cagefest, which is supported by Bauerfeind supports and orthoses, and medical compression stockings, and Wang’s Basketball.

In the junior action, Tonito Puyat tallied 18 points for Xavier School in their 84-23 swamping of Emilio Aguinaldo College-ICA, while FEU won over San Sebastian, 94-91, in another overtime encounter.

TIP-A, led by Carlo Gomez with 20 points,  snapped the Perpetual Help Altas’ winning streak after five games, and they now share the top spot with the same 4-1 win-loss slate, and they moved closer to one of two quarterfinal slots in their bracket, according to commissioner Robert de la Rosa.

The Xavier School Stallions have picked up their third consecutive triumph in Group B while the FEU Baby Tamaraws are now ahead at 4-1 in Group  A.

St. Jude defeated Lyceum, 58-37, and Arellano prevailed over EAC-ICA, 95-45.

In other games last Saturday, Enderun College won over Jose Rizal University, 77-72, while College of St. Benilde edged Emilio Aguinaldo College, 84-75, over at the St. Placid gym in San Beda College, Mendiola.

A split charity from Adamos followed by two free throws from Medina in the last 23.4 seconds allowed TIP-A to grab a 77-71 cushion at endgame.

The Altas tried to stay within range, but Chrisper Elopre could only convert one of two triples with 14 ticks to go.

TIP-A’s Joshua Alcober tied the contest in regulation with his jumper in the last 1:46, and they could have won it in the final minute.

But John Paul Magbitang bungled two charities and a drive in the ensuing play.
