IPTL Phl leg ticket sales reach P22M

Alder Almo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -- The early bird promo of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) has generated over 500,000 USD or more than P22 million in little over a week, according to organizers.

SM Tickets held an “Early Bird” sale for the Nov. 28-30 event at the Mall of Asia Arena for two weeks that started last Sept. 1.

The Philippines, which will be represented by the Manila Mavericks in the IPTL tour will be led by Maria Sharapova and Andy Murray. The top two stars will be joined by their teammates Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, Kirsten Flipkens, Daniel Nestor, Carlos Moya and top Philippines player Treat Huey. The 28-year-old Huey is the Philippines’ no. 1 and current ATP Doubles World No. 33.

The three-day pass during the “Early Bird” sale ranged from as low as Php 2,500 for General Admission to as high as Php 49,000 for the VIP section (including red carpet entry).

The big ticket sales in the Philippines augurs well for the new tennis league as organizers also announced in the same email to Philstar.com that tickets to the United Arab Emirates leg which will feature world's number one Novak Djokovic has gone on sale starting Sept. 15.

Djokovic will lead the UAE Royals, which will also feature Canadian tennis sensation Eugenie Bouchard, former world number one Caroline Wozniacki, French icon Richard Gasquet, the legendary Goran Ivanisevic, doubles specialist Nenad Zimonjic and the number one Arab player in the world, Malek Jaziri.

The tournament is expected to serve up a feast of thrilling games and will feature several of the world’s finest tennis players from the ATP and WTA rankings.

Singapore Slammers and Indian Aces are the two other franchises in the fledgling tennis league.

The competition will take place in the Philippines, Singapore and India before finally concluding in the United Arab Emirates.

Fans in the UAE region will be able to enjoy matches at the Hamdan Sports Complex, which will serve up to more than 12,000 spectators in a magnificent indoor arena.

The UAE venue pales in comparison to Philippines' MOA Arena which can seat from 14,000 to a full capacity of 20,000. Tickets to the Manila leg are still available via SM Tickets.
