Greenies, Gob vow entry to NCAA juniors Final 4

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The mindset of National College Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Most Valuable Player front-runner John Gob of La Salle-Greenhills is clear – help his team, in any way possible, get into the junior basketball’s Final Four.

Currently La Salle-Greenhills occupies the fifth spot, trailing by three-and-a-half games from the San Beda College Red Cubs, and will have to swipe a majority of its four remaining games in the elimination.

LSG (8-6 win-loss card) will face the MIT Red Robins (9-3) today at The Arena in San Juan.

And Gob, ahead in the MVP race with 56.89 statistical points, is expected to spearhead the charge of the surging LSG Greenies, which is the hottest team to-date after struggling in the first round.

The 6-foot-5 big man has been nothing but superb in LSG’s last two games, posting double-double figures in points and rebounds against the Red Cubs (25 and 19) and the San Sebastian Staglets (17 and 18).

Unless the Red Robins come up with a stringent defensive strategy, Gob, who many predict is a cinch to make it to the Mythical Five, will be unstoppable anew in the middle.

“It’s crunch time and it will be a huge challenge for me and my teammates to deliver at this crucial stage,” said Gob, who averages 15.1 points, 17.3 boards and 2.2 blocks per  game.
