MANILA, Philippines - Registration for the Canlubang Amateur Open is ongoing with the country’s leading players and rising junior stars in both the men’s and ladies divisions expected to join the 15th staging of the annual event set Oct. 8-10 at Cangolf’s North and South courses in Laguna.
Korean Park Ming Ung of Riviera and reigning Junior World champion Daniella Uy topped last year’s edition of one of the country’s premier amateur tournaments with the duo tipped to resume their drive for back-to-back crowns in the premier Championship division.
The Koreans have ruled the last two editions of the event with Kim In Jae of Eagle Ridge beating Rupert Zaragoza by three in 2012 then Park coming from behind to frustrate the top Filipino shotmaker last year.
Uy, meanwhile, faces a tough challenge from members of the fancied ICTSI golf stable, including Pauline del Rosario, who recently placed second in a pro tournament at Eagle Ridge.
But Uy hopes to re-display the form that won her the 15-17 crown in the recent Junior World in San Diego where she came from out of nowhere to force a tie with a closing 68 then edged Chinese Ziyi Wang in sudden death.
The 54-hole men’s championship will be held Oct. 8-10 at the North layout while the ladies event will be played Oct. 9-10 at the South course.
The Classes A (11 below), B (12-18) and C (19-up) will also be held Oct. 9-10.
Fee is pegged at P2,700 for the men’s championship, P2,650 for Classes A, B, C and ladies and P1,000 for Cangolf members, inclusive of a practice round. Deadline for listup is on Oct. 3.
