Valley, WW clash for Fed League title
MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Valley and Wack Wack forged a showdown for the 2014 Federation Golf League championship after beating separate opponents in their respective home turfs over the weekend.
Valley, which captured its first league crown over Alabang last year, hacked out a 6-4 win over Forest Hills in their home-and-away semis duel to earn a return trip to the finals, their fourth in the last five years.
Returning to action from a two-week break after they emerged the eliminations topnotcher, the Antipolo golfers survived a 3-2 scare in their visit to Forest Hills then repeated the same score at home the next day to boost their title retention drive in the tournament organized by the Federation of Golf Clubs Philippines, Inc. that featured 10 exclusive clubs.
Wack Wack, meanwhile, stepped up its bid for a fourth league title with a 7.5-2.5 demolition of Sta. Elena.
Wack Wack routed Sta. Elena, 4-1, on the road then completed the rout with a 3.5-1.5 win at their home turf.
Valley and Wack Wack topped the elims to earn outright semis seats while both Forest Hills and Sta. Elena both had to go through tough quarterfinal matchups.
Forest Hills whipped Alabang while Mimosa ended the run of Mimosa, which made it to the playoff rounds for the first time in its long Fed League participation.
