Cardinals, Generals, Titans register wins in Fr. Martin cagefest
MANILA, Philippines – Mapua Institute of Technology, Emilio Aguinaldo College and Enderun College continued their winning ways, easing off rivals in contrasting fashions last Saturday in 12th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament at the St. Placid gymnasium of the San Beda College-Manila campus in Mendiola.
Mark Brana topscored for 22 points as the Mapua Cardinals turned back the University of the East Warriors, 77-70, in Group A of this cagefest, which is supported by Bauerfeind supports and orthoses, and medical compression stockings, and Wang’s Basketball.
Jordan Rios banged in 20 points for the Enderun Titans, who subdued St. Michael College-Laguna, 101-56, in Group A.
The Cardinals, who leaned on two triples from Stephen Guzman to move away by 14, 42-28, at halftime, hiked their win-loss record to 2-1, and are now even with Emilio Aguinaldo College in Group B.
The Generals halted defending champion Ateneo’s winning run after five games, coming off with a 61-52 beating in Group B.
In the junior division, National University walloped EAC-ICA, 94-49, while Brian Lacap hit 28 points for the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs as they won over the San Beda Red Cubs, 84-81.
NU marched to its fourth straight win in Group B while UST improved its slate to 3-3 in Group A.
In other senior encounters, Jose Rizal University (3-1) prevailed over Arellano University, 79-55, while College of St. Benilde thwarted Polytechnic University of the Philippines, 52-40.
