Bibiano shines in Sun Cellular Nat’l Jr. badminton Visayas leg

MANILA, Philippines -  April Dianne Bibiano copped two titles to lead the winners in the first Sun Cellular-Ming Ramos National juniors badminton tournament Visayas at the Raquet Zone Badminton Center, Montebello Villa Hotel Compound Apas in Cebu City over the weekend.

Bibiano dominated fellow University of St. La Salle mainstay Aizyl Joy Anuales, 21-10, 21-9, to capture the girls’ 19-under singles crown. 

Bibiano later teamed up with Dhessa Mae Arino to rout Elca Marie Gidaya and Cana Isabelle Solon of Siliman U, 21-3, 21-4, and pocket the 19-U doubles crown. 

Emilio Mangubat Jr. of Whackers Badminton Club whipped Dexter Opalla of UCBC, 21-14, 21-11, to clinch the boys’ 19-under singles plum. He also took the 17-U diadem with a 21-11, 21-7 romp over Ryan Doromal of Southwestern U.

Android Rose Tiongson, also of Southwestern U, repulsed Tricia Opon, 11-21, 21-14, 21-13, to clinch the girls’ 17-U singles title in the three-day event backed by Sun Cellular, Smart Communications, Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) Sports Foundation, and Philippine Badminton Association, Smash Pilipinas and Babolat.

Carl Bernard Bejasa of USC took the boys’ 15-U title with a 21-9, 21-11 victory over Paul James Ouano of USC while Laville Laborte of USC defeated Mia Manguilimotan of Talisay City, 21-19, 21-15, to snare the girls’ 15-U crown.

Lyrden Laborte of Racquet Zone Badminton Club turned back fellow Neil John Navarette, 22-24, 21-13, 21-16, to win the boys’ 13-U title while Zinah Marichelle Bejasa of Racquet Zone beat Eclaire Anne Satera, 21-11, 21-9, for the girls’ 13-U crown.
