RTU, Olivarez triumph

MANILA, Philippines - Last year’s finalists Rizal Technological University and Olivarez College prevailed over separate rivals Monday in the 13th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) basketball tournament at the Olivarez College gymnasium in Sucat, Parañaque.

 Rennel Montecillo fired 19 points for the RTU Blue Thunder as they turned back Philippine Nautical and Technical College, 87-78, to pick up their second straight win.

Alvin Pronto backed up Montecillo with 13 points.

  Meanwhile, Richard Singh shot 13 points for the Olivarez Sea Lions in their 69-51 subduing of the Trinity University of Asia Stallions.

In the other game, Rizal Tech moved out of range in the second period after two triples from Ronnie Santos allowed the team to take a nine-point lead, 41-32.

The Blue Thunder, who won over the Sea Lions, 73-69, Saturday,  gun for their third straight against PNTC today at the RTU gym.

In Saturday’s game,  John Paul Baliday made 19 points in MLQ University’s 77-70 win over   PNTC.
